In the Won Sangha, everyone is considered as both a teacher and student for everyone has their own particular strengths and weaknesses in various areas of study, and needs to learn and grow in the areas where they might not be so strong. But in the area of spiritual practice and dharma study, several ministers have helped.

  Rev. Dosung (Moojin) Yoo

rev

Rev. Moojin Yoo was ordained in the Won Buddhist Order in Korea in the year of 1993 after changing his path from practicing Christianity. He teaches courses in meditation, Buddhism and Won Buddhism and has led various retreats at the Philadelphia Won Buddhist Temple. Since 2002, after the Won Institute of Graduate Studies opened, he has taught sitting meditation and Buddhist sutras for graduate students in both the Applied Meditation Studies and Won Buddhist Studies programs. His teaching of meditation is based on the prajna literatures, specifically the Heart Sutra with an emphasis on enlightenment, and how the realization of anatta, no self, deepens our practice and leads to freedom of the mind. The direction of Rev. Yoo¡¯s teaching has always been to modernize and popularize Buddhism so that people in contemporary society can use Buddha dharma to enrich their lives. He has translated several Won Buddhist Texts and is interested in bridging the gap between the teachings of Christianity and Buddhism to encourage the United Religion movement, the corner stone of world peace.
